I am 72 y.o. Was on the gel pump for several years. When it lost effectiveness, my doc started me on
injections every two weeks for low T. WOW!! My 63 y.o. lady friend appreciates the "young me" so much
that she offered to pay the deductibles and copays required by my insurance. The only side effect to the
injections that I have noticed are zits! (Are you kidding me?) Not at all. One of the drawbacks to being a teen
again, I guess.

Has anybody tried BAYER's NEBIDO? I tried it and my life has been hell. Panic attacks initially, light headedness and dizziness to this day (week 9) and general anxiety. This drug is really horrible. I wonder if anybody else has experienced the same? It's not approved in US and Canada - I guess now i know the reason why!
I would welcome some comments and feedback but in general please watch out if you are planning to use it! It remains in your system for a very long time.

I have been on the Androgel 1.62% gel for almost two years and have experienced no side effects. I had been using the patch delivery system and began seeing a rash in the area of the patch was the reason for the change to the gel.

Not sure it was aging or my Vasectomy at 32, but I started to lose my Libido, but brain did not. I finally went to my Doc for normal blood work and told him or asked him. "Is this because I have been with only one women for then, 20 years" He laughed at me and said "Let's check your TS" I was like 300. He wanted to put me on creams, but back then they were not so good. I opted to give myself 440mg injection every three weeks. Wife injects and uses it to get back at me every three weeks. OUCH

In watchful waiting on a Gleason 6 Prostate Cancer. For past 18 years i took compound Testosterone and DHEA for low T in wake of successful chemo for small-cell lung cancer. Now I am taking 5Grams of Androgel a day via pump. However, I have had very high results (1,778, 1,186) on follow up testing - causing lowering of dosing. Now I am wondering if the 15 minute brisk walk I had made just prior to these blood draws could have elevated my results?I am retesting without the brisk walk! RHJ, 74

I've had injections for the past few months & have have felt little to no effect, is this normal? Maybe I'm not giving it enough time? I guess I was hoping for a miracle cure for my fatigue & I thought tesosterone was the answer. Should I bring this up to my dr. or wait some more for this injection to work?

I'm VERY happy to be using Testosterone! My Body mass is 23.5, I've almost NO spare tyre, my energy is great, my thinking and memory very good for 73, I need to struggle to maintain muscle mass but have no pains or disabilities, I feel like a 25 year old!
I DID have to raise hell with the docs in that even the VA endro had no problem with my Estrogen being about 500% higher than it should: about 30- but after getting on anastrozole and pounding it down to where a man SHOULD BE, I'm doing good""

Due to insurance issues I was taken off Androgel and given Testim. With androgel you could apply to abdomen while twstim is shoulders and arms. Has anyone using Testim placed it on the abdomen and if so did you have any negative results?
Thanks

I've been applying androgel--another sticky syrup like 1% for years, I apply it about anywhere but on my head, testicles or penis. It is a horrible substitute for what a compounding pharmacist will make up for you but the VA supplies it and I can't afford otherwise. DO have your Estrogen levels tested, many MD's know little about endrocrenology but you can tell if you're getting enough effect from your T by having nocturnal and morning erections.

I have been using Androgel for about ten years. It basically saved my life, my energy level got so low I could hardly function. The only negative thing that has happened since I have been using this product has been sleep apnea, and I am not sure that was a result of the product. Otherwise, I have found this product to be just as good as it is expensive, and it is expensive.

I've been taking Androgel for almost 2 years (the pump gel). It takes a while to get your levels back up to where they belong....the only thing is that you have to continue to take the stuff or back down they go, at least that's what my doctor told me. It's not a big deal except for the price of it...not cheap. Any way since I started this and with my every 6 month checkup...my prostrate has been shrinking...that's the best news you could tell me or anyone for that fact...usually the older you get the larger the thing goes, but my last two checkups have brought it down considerably...my doctor said he's never seen results like mine before....

Androgel is way too expensive. I took it for a few years and it did raise my level to 400 but I found out about injecting liquid testosterone and it's no problem at all.. It's dirt cheap compared to Androgel and more effective. My level is now 650 and feel great.
If you don't mind injecting it yourself try it. You only do it once every 3 weeks into the muscular upper thigh area. You tube has great instructions. No pain when pinching the area when injecting.
Good luck everyone.

Your T levels go down when you stop using testosterone but there is a bad downside with your estradiol hormone estrogen levels going up giving you a roller coaster ride.
You need to find a local HRT doc. When you initially begin Hormone Replacement Therapy your body is still producing some T & with the gel or injections you will get a good rush.
Unless you taper off testosterone gradually it will drive your estradiol through the roof killing any possibility of symptom improvement.

then-- get a prescription of ANESTROZOLE at Wallmart
BTW-- If you're a vet, hammer them with research if necessary to get them to prescribe your T, at least!

how long before I should be able to have someone touch me after applying? It seems to create an opposing effect if my libido and energy go up and I am not allowed to have contact with anyone. Is it safe after a few hours or do I need to shower before any contact at all?

DON'T worry, nothing will be significant unless you're having heavy contact with a pregnant woman or a very young child, at best a guy OR gal might get a slight boost in libido, the stuff isn't THAT potent, I spread 10 G (By prescription) of it on myself DAILY with the effect of keeping this 73 year old body working well.

I had 2 t injections a month apart. Two weeks after the second shot, I noticed my ankles swelling, increased blood pressure, continuous anxiety or spasms around my chest and arms(almost like shivering), extreme morning fatigue, and bad mood. Is this related to the falling off of the t or am I experiencing some new issue?

Fatigue, swelling, increased blood pressure and mood swings are all side effects of testosterone. These reactions could be caused by the increasing levels of testosterone in your body as the testosterone injections are typically released and absorbed into the body slowly. Make sure you report all your symptoms to your physician before your next dose is administered.

I did the same thing, I was told it was a "Crash" from my Testosterone level dropping back down to .92, I was told that for a man at 39 years of age that my level should be around 250 to 300. I don't believe that because when my levels was up to 450 or 500 I felt like a brand new man, Full of energy, Great mood, increase of appetite, and my sleep pattern improved. Now that I have "not" had a shot in 3 months I feel tired, depressed, and I can't sleep. But I did experience the same symptoms as u.

Just prescribed Androgel, get it tomorrow. Am on a boatload of Meds for Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Graves Disease/ Hypothyroid, and Heart Bypass @ age 39.
I am concerned with taking any new medication, but will remain hopeful and post accordingly.
I see that Androgel is a concern with Heart issues.... How much of a concern is this, and does it lessen with continued use?
Additionally, have 3 infant grandkids, that I am around regularly. Should I push to be moved over to the shots?

I am a 52 married male, father of two, step father of four, grandfather of two. I have suffered a career ending, work related industrial injury that has left me with multiple problems to do with chronic upper back pain, muscle spasms, loss of feeling in my legs and hands along with my normal health issues. They include hypertension, epilepsy, NAFLD, high cholesterol (bad), and type 2 diabetes. I have been on a rather extensive overhaul of my whole lifestyle and diet change over the last 12 to 18 months to improve my overall health, my outlook on life, and my whole well being. I have lost some 55 pounds, at the request of my liver specialist I have been taking vitamin e (1000 iu/day), at the request of my family doctor I have been taking Rx strength Lovanza (Omega-3-acid ethyl esters capsules-2grams morning/2grams evening), and in the last five months I have able to control my type 2 diabetes thru exercise/diet alone. I have also suffered from libido problems.
I am fortunate as I am on my company's Long Term Disability program with great pay, great benefits, and am still considered an employee until I reach full retirement age. I have been taking testosterone supplements via a Rx made locally at a compounding pharmacy (testosterone van pen 10% cream) applying it daily on the inside on my upper leg, one day on one leg, the next day the other leg. I have had remarkable success with it with little or no side affects that I can tell. I have been on this cream for about 1 year. I am tested quarterly by my urologist to insure that my testosterone levels are within normal limits. I also get quarterly blood work done for my diabetes sugar levels, my liver enzyme panels, and all other normal blood work as required by my family doctor. Recently we have had discussions about my improved health and well being, the subject of removing me from the bad cholesterol reducing drug Vytorin has become a reality.
My question is this. My biggest concern is the Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. I am being treated by Pacific Liver Institute. I have been told that I have made remarkable improvements in this same time frame and I feel great. What are the affects of the remaining drugs I am taking on my system as it relates to my overall health? Ms Contin ER 30mg, Topamax, Furosemide, Avapro, and Atenolol.

was using im testosterone bi-weekly for years. quit completely for a time. blood work indicated low levels so md suggested androgel. have not really had same benefit as im regimen. testicles have become slightly smaller. no increase in libido (thank you paxil!) energy levels are stable. mood is balanced and stable. increase of facial hair growth. over all I have nothing negative to report. just 'wish' it increased libido.
